A little bit of Ida-Viru county
By now people know, that I love Estonia. I have been around in Estonia rather much I would say, but never really explored the northern parts. So with a mini-van, bunch of amazing friends and Russian music in the car – my road trip could not have been better! Our trip started in Tallinn – Lahemaa National Park – Kohtla-Järve – Sillamäe – Narva-Jõesuu – Narva/Kreenholm Factory – Northern part of Lake Peipus – Rapla – Tallinn. Done by 3 days.
Car approaching Kohtla-Järve centre.
After a morning swim in Lahemaa National Park with it’s green forest and fresh air, we wanted Soviet concrete. Kothla-Järve and Sillamäe gave us a dose of that. We felt welcome here. Had one great šašlõkk at the friendly M Ruut Kohvik in Kohtla-Järve and a sweet walk in Sillamäe. It is what it is, just deal with it and be cool!
Ghost town close to Sillamäe. Scary as it looks, it’s also sad. School, post office, little store, playgrounds – all empty. Houses are all “empty” and it´s sad to picture that this was a living town at one point.
Amazing beach, I would say. Great spaces and beautiful! After a few stops, we decided to crash at the beach with some beers. We also booked a night in Narva Hotel *** in Narva city centre. Receptionist gave us a “park view” and breakfast was included for free. Love it! The morning after, we passed by Narva castle and in a dirty corner we found Mr Lenin himself.
So this was the big adventure of the trip. We all, especially me, wanted to visit the impressive Kreenholm Factory. Once a enormous textile factory. Huge as hell! They don´t really do individual tours here when you want to, but once in Narva, you work your magic and contacts. It was cooler than it looks on the photos!
Love this lake! Long, empty, sandy beaches with clear water. We took the chance to visit the popular Onion Road. I will be back one day!
UFO look-a-like Soviet building. Loving the architecture and it always been on my “to do list” in Estonia. From Rapla back to Tallinn for some parties, second hand stores and dinners in Elevant Restaurant. One road-trip to remember for sure!
